(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Transport and Communications on Monday signed an agreement with the construction division of Oman Global Logistics Group (ASYAD) for the management of tunnels on the Bidbid-Sur road.
The agreement was signed by H E Eng Salim bin Mohammed al Nuaimi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Eng Abdul Rahman bin Salim al Hatmi, CEO of ASYAD. The agreement implements the national economic diversification programme, Tanfeedh. H E Eng Nuaimi said work is under way on the tunnels at Wadi al Uq.
The project is one of the initiatives of Tanfeedh programme with relation to establishing a company to manage transport and communication projects. He added that the Dibba-Lima-Khasab road needs more than eight tunnels, each of them between 1.5km and 2km. H E Nuaimi expected the Al Batinah Expressway up to Wadi al Jizi to open by April 2018.
He said that the government is interested in implementing the four-lane Muscat-Bidbid Expressway. The tender for this project will hopefully be floated next year. 'The construction division of OGL Group will be the arm of the ministry in implementing infrastructure projects. It will integrate with the private sector companies to manage their projects to ensure good implementation and build national capacities in a way that ensures sustainability of such skills.'
He said that the idea came through Tanfeedh programme to give public companies the opportunity to manage these projects.
