Doha: Al-Ahli Hospital held several events for the staff, physicians and patients about the importance of clean hands and it coincides with the International Hand Hygiene Day.
One of the activities involves glo-germ that is a neon gel to apply on hands before washing.
'Hand hygiene is one of the most important things we can do in health care to prevent illness, said a hospital infection disease specialist, Dr. Mohammad El Ahmadi. He is also the Director of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department at Al-Ahli Hospital. 'And hand washing is the easiest thing we can do.
Snehalata Syed, Infection Control Coordinator at Al-Ahli Hospital, said: 'That each year the hand hygiene campaign aims to progress the goal of importance of hand hygiene in Al-Ahli Hospital and to bring the health care workers and patient together in support of hand hygiene that reduces the risk of health care associated infection.
'The theme of WHO world hand hygiene day for this year is ‘Clean Care For All, it's in your hands, she added. Poor hand hygiene leads to germs transmission including of those resistance to antibiotics this can put patients in to risk of potentially fatal Health care associated infection. 'With the support of the management and the infection control specialists Al-Ahli Hospital marked the hand hygiene day by visiting every unit of the hospital. They demonstrated the importance of hand hygiene. Everyone was reminded of the five moments of hand hygiene and causes of antibiotics resistance and its combat, said Snehalata.
