São Paulo - Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP ) is hosting on Thursday (18) the Open Plenary on the Global Compact on Migration. The event is held by NGO África do Coração , in partnership with international Catholic Church organization Cáritas , NGO Conectas Direitos Humanos and the CCSP (pictured).
The debate is intended to create a space where Brazilians and immigrants can discuss Brazil's exiting the compact on migration, as well as pinpoint the biggest issues facing Brazilians living abroad and immigrants living in Brazil and come up with proposals for organizations (like África do Coração) to embrace gender perspectives when catering to migrants and refugees.
Host Jean Katumba of África do Coração will welcome attendees. A delegate from Conectas will cover gender issues in connection with immigration, and a representative from Cáritas will discuss perspectives as Brazil steps out of the Global Compact on Migration, and the organization's proposal on the subject. Abdulbaset Jarour of Syria will speak from the vantage point of a refugee in Brazil. Their addresses will be followed by an open debate.
