(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Saraya Bandar Jissah on Wednesday hosted the ground-breaking ceremony for the second major construction stage of Oman's newest integrated tourism complex (ITC) project.

The ground-breaking celebration officially marked the start of construction work for the residential, hotels, and community components of the US600mn resort destination.

The ceremony was held at the site under the auspices of H H Sayyid Asa'ad bin Tariq al Said, representative to His Majesty the Sultan.

Sheikh Hamood Sultan al Hosni, CEO of Saraya Bandar Jissah, and the company board and management were present at the event to welcome dignitaries and business leaders.

Building on the renewed confidence in Oman's real estate market and tourism growth, Saraya Bandar Jissah is the first ITC to be launched since 2007.

Speaking at the event, Hosni said that the first phase of the project, which includes two hotels, recreational facilities and three residential zones, will be completed in 2017, while the second phase comprising two more residential zones will be completed in 2020.

He said, ''Supporting the vision of His Majesty the Sultan, Saraya Bandar Jissah will become a major contributor to the economic growth of the sultanate and will have a positive impact on the country's GDP.''

With its focus on delivering Oman's most luxurious development, the project will provide two five-star hotels with 318 rooms, including a beachfront ballroom for weddings and events, international cuisine restaurants and venues for sports activities, including a diving centre.

Hosni said that the project will boost tourism and create job opportunities in the long ter ''More than 800 direct jobs will be created in addition to indirect jobs for the overall economy. The company is willing to work on development and training programmes for Omani employees to make them ready, once operations start,'' he said.

Saraya Bandar Jissah has adopted the vision of the ITC by ensuring that the master plan provides world-class tourist elements, while balancing the harmony of the residential community to create a destination of choice for the domestic and international markets.

The two five-star hotels will be operated by renowned hotel and resort operator, Jumeirah Group, which will bring in its expertise in developing leading destinations catering to both the domestic and international tourists.

Gerald Lawless, president and CEO of Jumeirah Group, said, ''Projects such as Jumeirah at Saraya Bandar Jissah are a response to the well planned and implemented tourism development and marketing strategy of Oman. The economic reach of travel and tourism is deep in Oman and it is vital to the nation. It is an ideal destination for long-haul international travellers coming in for a vacation or a conference, as well as for regional tourists seeking short breaks.''

Saraya Bandar Jissah, which is being developed in partnership between Omran and Saraya Oman, is located on the outskirts of Muscat on a secluded beach surrounded by the Hajar Mountains. The destination will be built on 2.2mn sq m of land with an expansive beachfront and a high point of 250m.

Saraya Bandar Jissah will be home to 398 exclusive residential units, spacious hilltop villas, stylish town-houses and luxury apartments - all with attractive waterfront and mountainside view
