DOHA: Al Kharaitiyat yesterday beat Umm Salal 2-0 in their fifth-round clash of the QSL Cup. First-half goals from Magid Salmeen and Abdulaziz Al Ansari powered Al Kharaitiyat - now coached by Wisam Rizq - to their second win of the tournament.
Al Kharaitiyat opened the scoring at the half hour-mark when Magid Salmeen fired home off an indirect corner kick. After picking up a lose ball, Salmeen tapped the ball with a pacy shot that went through the hands of Umm Salal keeper Basel Zaidan.
Three minutes from the first-half whistle, Al Kharaitiyat doubled their lead with a bit of luck favouring the boys in black outfits. A loopy cross from an Umm Salal player landed at the feet of Abdulaziz Al Ansari. The Al Kharaitiyat striker volleyed home in style, sending the ball crashing into the net from a shot inside the Umm Salal box.
Both sides failed to score in the second half at Grand Hamad Stadium.
Salmeen, captain of Al Kharaitiyat, received a yellow card in the 49th minute whereas Atef Mohammed (53) and Luiz Araujo (56) of Umm Salal were also penalised with yellow cards.
