AJMAN, 11th March, 2018 (WAM) -- A joint-committee of the Ministry of Economy, MoE, and the Department of Economic Development in Ajman, DED-Ajman, has organised an inspection campaign to monitor prices in large retail outlets in the emirate, as part of the Department's efforts to adhere to their commitment to enforce the new VAT law, and prevent its use in raising prices without proper justification.
The committee, which is responsible for assessing consumer complaints regarding price increases in shopping centres, held a coordination meeting with representatives of retail centres to improve awareness among merchants and managers of commercial facilities about the VAT law.
Abdullah bin Nasser Al Nuaimi, Assistant Director-General for Economic Registration and Control Affairs at DED-Ajman, said that the Department is aware of the importance of cooperating with all national authorities to ensure the prosperity of local consumer markets, maintain balance between the rights of consumers, investors and commercial facilities, and achieve the highest levels of consumer and investment safety.
He added that the Department aims, through organising inspection and monitoring campaigns, to create a business environment that encourages competition and investment in vital economic sectors, which reflects its vision of providing a prosperous economy.
Majid Nasser Al Suwaidi, Director of the Control and Inspection Administration, said that DED-Ajman is keen to promote its presence, through organising inspection campaigns to monitor prices and protect consumers. Its strategic priority and main goal is to provide a fair consumer and investment environment that supports the stability of the nation's economy, he added.
Al Suwaidi noted the Department's commitment to monitor local retail markets on a regular basis, as well as product prices and safety standards in sales outlets and commercial centres, and to promote economic activity in the emirate based on federal and local laws.
