According to local police, 48 people were found dead until now, and 14 bodies were sent to the morgue in the city of Huaral.

Head of police Hernan Valdivieso said: "We are going up to another 10 over a 200-metre slope, 12 bodies are located safely and the remaining 12 others are still in the bus."

The emergency services have worked all day to save the survivors and to locate the dead among the twisted irons of the bus before the tide covered the vehicle near Pasamayo.
