NASA: Blue Whale-Size Asteroid Set to Pass Earth

(MENAFN) An asteroid 40 meters in length and 15 meters in width is approaching the Earth, according to NASA which added that it will take place on the closest to our planet distance on February 10.

The asteroid 2018-CB surpasses in its size the Chelyabinsk meteorite, which entered the atmosphere of the planet in 2013 and NASA says that asteroids of this size rarely pass so close to the Earth but the entrance to the atmosphere is not expected.

Although discovering the orbit trajectory, size, shape, mass, composition and rotational dynamics would help experts determine the severity of a potential impact, the key to mitigating damage is to find any potential threat as early as possible.

In its first of a kind mission, NASA is currently moving forward with a refrigerator-sized spacecraft capable of preventing asteroids from colliding with Earth.
