(MENAFN) UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric raised concerns of a possible outbreak of cholera in Yemen, with roughly 223,000 suspected cases since early this year.
According to the UN spokesman, this is triple the number of cases submitted early 2018, and almost a quarter of cases are children aged less than five.
Dujarric is alarmed over a potential "spiraling epidemic with mass morbidity and death if current trends are not quickly brought under control."
He added that "agencies are particularly concerned because this increase has come months before the usual spike in cases during the rainy season which takes place in August in Yemen."
