Lebanon not to receive France USD11b loans if gov't establishment fails


(MENAFN) France issued a warning against Lebanon, saying that if a new government was not established by this year's end, it will not take delivery of the USD11 billon of grants and soft loans pledged during the CEDRE conference.

Elnashra cited lawmaker Fadi Alameh as saying "French Ambassador to Lebanon urged (Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih) Berri to speed up the government formation."

The lawmaker added that the envoy warned: "otherwise the money allocated for Lebanon at CEDRE will be given to other countries."

France has pledge the USD11 billion grants and loans during the CEDRE conference to help Lebanon's reforms of its ailing infrastructure and strengthen its economy.
