Oman- Electric Vehicle Road Trip pushes to accelerate use, showcases wide range

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- For the first time ever, people in Oman can lay their sights on a Tesla car thanks to the nine-day Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT) that will see a host of electric cars make way to Oman. Part of the programme to accelerate the usage of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Middle East, the event also marks the opening of charging stations in Sohar and Muscat.

The EVRT was flagged off by Ben Pullen, co-founder and managing director, Global EVRT, at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. A large crowd got a chance to see the electric vehicles at WFES, before they took to the road.

Eng Suhail al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy, said, 'We pursue a diverse mix of energy strategies and we are also open to a diverse mix of mobility. We hope people with EVs will be able to travel all over the GCC soon.'

Participants entered Oman from Al Ain on Friday and stopped overnight in Sohar.

On Saturday, the first charging station was opened at Crowne Plaza Sohar.

'Expanding infrastructure is something to truly celebrate, giving all residents and visitors of Sohar who own an electric vehicle the support needed to drive and charge with ease for years to come. EV owners will then be able to drive between the UAE and Oman - exciting beginnings,' stated the company.

The road trip participants will drive to Muscat on Sunday while Monday will see a host of public events.

The day will start with 'Future Mobility Round Table' at InterContinental Muscat, where key stakeholders of Oman in the industries of transport and smart cities will discuss the successes, challenges and plans for the future. 'The first event of its kind in Oman, this will be a unique chance for government and industry to explore the next steps in the future of mobility in this fast evolving region,' the company said.

The second charging station in Oman will open at InterContinental Muscat on Monday after which public will be given a chance to experience the range of electric vehicles.

On Tuesday, EVRT will head for Sohar and from there to Fujairah and Ras al Khaimah before passing through Umm al Quwain, Ajman and Sharjah.

The cars will reach the final destination at The Sustainable City in Dubai on Friday.
