(MENAFN - Arab News) Over a million Saudi and Gulf visitors are expected at "Come On, Jeddah" (Hayya Jeddah) festival beginning Jan. 11.
Scores of malls, parks, hotels, restaurants and shopping centers are ready to compete at the largest shopping festival. This is the third edition of the festival that aims to promote Jeddah's tourism.
Adnan Mandourah, secretary-general of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, hoped that the festival would boost business by supporting a winter shopping season.
"We foresee a winter shopping festival similar to Jeddah Summer Festival (Jeddah Ghair) which has been a success story for 13 years," he said.
"Hayya Jeddah" is organized in line with the city's strategic objectives to develop Jeddah as a religous, economic and cultural destination for tourists through strategic partnerships and developing the Saudi labor force in this sector.
Mandourah told Arab News that representatives of tourism and shopping centers will announce the upcoming activities in the next few days. Events, venues and directions will be published on a dedicated website. The events and their timings will also be shared through Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to ensure large participation.
He commended Prince Mishaal ibn Majid's support for the various tourist, cultural and social activities in the city.
The chamber is organizing the event in cooperation with the Jeddah Governorate, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities and King Abdul Aziz International Airport.
