China criticizes baseless NATO accusations

(MENAFN) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has strongly criticized NATO for what he describes as "groundless accusations" made against Beijing during the bloc's recent summit in Washington. In the declaration adopted by NATO members, the US-led alliance accused China of collaborating with Russia to undermine and reshape the rules-based international order. The statement also claimed that China has been supplying dual-use materials and components to Russian arms manufacturers amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In a phone conversation with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, Wang emphasized that China "will never accept" these allegations and asserted that the nation has always been a proponent of peace and stability within the international community. He pointed out that while China and NATO nations operate under different political systems and values, this disparity should not justify NATO's efforts to incite confrontation with China.

Wang called on NATO to prioritize dialogue and foster "mutual trust," rather than engaging in what he considers unfounded allegations against Beijing. He also cautioned NATO against interfering in the Asia-Pacific region or challenging China's "legitimate rights and interests." The foreign minister expressed China's willingness to maintain communication with NATO on an equal footing and to conduct exchanges based on mutual respect.

Additionally, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the European Union echoed Wang's sentiments, labeling NATO's recent declaration as "provocative" and filled with "obvious lies and smears." The spokesperson reiterated that China does not provide lethal weapons to either side in the Ukraine conflict and strictly controls exports of dual-use goods.

This exchange reflects the escalating tensions between NATO and China, highlighting the complex geopolitical landscape as both sides navigate their differing positions and interests in an increasingly multipolar world. The ongoing accusations and counteraccusations signal a significant moment in international relations, as both NATO and China grapple with their roles and responsibilities in maintaining global stability.
