Iran Taking Steps to Transform Macro Policies for Maritime Economy


(MENAFN) At the opening ceremony of the 14th International Conference on Coast, Ports and Marine Structures (ICOPMAS 2022), PMO Head Ali-Akbar Safaei highlighted Iran's special geographical position and capacities in the maritime sector. He also mentioned that the Iranian government is taking necessary measures to transform the country's macro policies with regard to the maritime economy.

Safaei explained that the government and Expediency Council are currently formulating macro-economic policies for the maritime economy, which could significantly increase the share of the maritime industry in Iran's GDP. He added that this new policy is not only a new horizon for the country, but it also creates new opportunities for neighboring countries and the region as well.

The PMO Head further stated that the government is seeking to facilitate the activities of all bodies involved in the maritime industry, including engineers and consulting companies. He also noted that other strategies have been considered to empower various maritime sectors and to facilitate the business environment for all entities active in this area.

In terms of international collaboration, Safaei emphasized that Iran is following more than 50 international conventions, treaties, and regulations to ensure the improvement of safety, preservation of the marine environment, and maritime security in the country's territorial waters.
