Most Ukrainians Think Peace Talks With Russia Impossible


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) In Ukraine, 60% of citizens do not support negotiations with Russia - even for the sake of saving lives, according to a survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center.

The results of the survey were presented at a press conference at Ukrinform on Thursday, December 29.

'Ukrainian society, after all the crimes by Russia, simply does not believe that Russia is capable of entering into firm and lasting peace agreements. We saw that more than 60% [of those polled] said that they do not support negotiations with Russia even for the sake of saving lives. At the same time, 23%, almost one in five, believe that in order to save lives, it is necessary to negotiate with Russia. . And 17% of respondents said they either disagreed with any of these statements or couldn't form a clear opinion on the matter,' said Petro Burkovskyi, the executive director of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

According to the survey, 93% of respondents believe in Ukraine's victory in the war, and only 3% of respondents doubt it. Among those who believe in Ukraine's victory, 39% believe that it will come before the summer of 2023, 22% think this will happen in a year or two, and 20% believe that it can be achieved in the coming months.

The survey showed that the most important military event of the year for 39% of Ukrainians was the defense of Mariupol, for 37% it was the liberation of Kherson, and 33% named the liberation of theChernihiv, Kyiv and Sumy regions.

The poll was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center with the support of the MATRA program from December 13 to 21.

A total of 2,018 respondents over the age of 18 were interviewed. The poll's margin of error does not exceed 2.3%.
