Producing the vaccination card has been made mandatory to access public places from 1st January.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that anyone who has not yet been vaccinated should do so.

“Beginning 01st January 2022, #COVID19SL vaccination cards will be made mandatory to access public spaces in #lka. If you haven't already received it, i urge you to #GetVaccinatedNow. #StaySafe #WearAMask,” the Minister tweeted.

The Attorney General (AG) had last month given the backing to ban unvaccinated people from public places.

Rambukwella said that he had sought the opinion of the AG to enforce the ban.

He said that the AG had informed him that there are legal provisions to enforce such a ban.

As a result, the Minister said that he was looking to take steps to enforce the ban.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that there will be objections to the move but the Government is prepared to face it.

He said that a number of countries have implemented such a ban. (Colombo Gazette)
