Hyundai's Turkey plant's production tops 1m vehicles

(MENAFN) Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, said its plant in Turkey has produced its 1 millionth vehicle, marking a milestone in the company's presence in the country and Europe, QNA reported.

The plant, which is located in the city of Izmit, has the capacity to produce 200,000 cars per year. It has been operating since 1997, with vehicles such as the i10 and i20 supermini cars currently being made there.

"With the mass-production of the second generation i10 last year, Turkey has become key to the company's expansion into Europe," the carmaker said.

Hyundai added that its Turkey operation sold 88,040 cars to 30 countries in Europe and other nearby countries in the January-June period. This is equal to 90 percent of all cars produced.
