Intergenerational Dialogue Stands Crucial For Caribbean Resilience - Director

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. Intergenerational dialogue is key to the sustainability of the Caribbean region, said Cheryl Senhouse, Director of Financial Innovations, at a panel discussion in Baku on the topic "Unity in Action: Intergenerational Voices for Just and Sustainable Islands in the Caribbean," Trend reports.

Senhouse illuminated the treasure trove of wisdom that elders embody, guardians of ancient lore who weave the fabric of customs and traditions through the threads of their stories.

"They can find ways to combine new technologies and approaches with traditional methods to help find solutions. We clearly see the convergence of agriculture and renewable energy, as well as the intersection of finance and technology. Additionally, there are microfinance platforms that support not only those working in the climate sector but also individuals who are often marginalized or lack access to financial resources," she added.

The director further stressed the importance of fostering approaches that incubate youth ideas, allowing them to be transformed into viable and scalable opportunities.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has started in Baku. The decision was made at the plenary session of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for“Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
