Arab League Chief: Ready To Support Sudan's Stability
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, May 2 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit stressed Tuesday readiness to support Sudan to achieve its stability, security, and maintain its territorial integrity and unity, as well as stop the bloodshed.
This came during a meeting between Abul-Gheit and Ambassador Dafallah El Haj Ali, envoy of head of Sudan Sovereign Council Abdulfattah Al-Burhan, the League's said in a statement.
El Haj Ali conveyed a message from al-Burhan to Abul-Gheit on the current developments in Sudan, including military situations and challenges facing the Sudanese armed forces to re-impose security and re-control situation mainly in Khartoum, it said.
The envoy stressed that Sudan appreciates support provided by the Arab countries in this regard.
He affirmed Sudan's need to Arabs' support for its legitimate institutions, in a way that leads to restore stability, according to the statement.
Abul-Gheit, meanwhile, affirmed the Arab League's keenness on Sudan's stability, and protection of its people, capabilities and institutions.
He stressed the importance of reaching arrangements that help deal with deteriorated humanitarian situation in the conflict-affected areas, it noted.
In their meeting earlier in the day, the League permanent delegates called for an unconditional immediate halt of fighting in Sudan.
They also demanded enhancing the ceasefire truce for the sake of humanitarian and living conditions of Sudanese people. (end)
