Deadly Avalanche Near Mont Blanc Claims Four Lives, Leaves Two Missing

(MENAFN) On Sunday, a tragic avalanche occurred near Mont Blanc in southeastern France, resulting in the deaths of four people and leaving two others missing. According to officials, two mountain guides were among those swept away by the snow on the Armancette glacier. Search and rescue teams have been called in to locate the missing persons in the Alps.

While one person suffered slight injuries in the avalanche, eight others were fortunately unharmed. The prefecture for the Haute-Savoie department reported that the avalanche covered an area of approximately 1,000 meters by 500 meters.

Surprisingly, no avalanche warning had been issued for the region by weather authority Meteo France. However, the prefecture has suggested that a combination of warmth and wind may have been behind the disaster. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the avalanche.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the families of the victims via Twitter, stating, "We're thinking of (the victims) as well as of their families." This tragic event is a reminder of the dangers associated with mountainous areas and the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure safety.
