Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has announced that its team members found an injured flamingo on Bin Ghanem Island, popularly known as Purple Island.

The injured flamingo was treated and cared for, said MoECC on its twitter handle.

The Ministry added that 'flamingos are prohibited birds, and whoever hunts them exposes himself to legal accountability.'

MoECC renews its call 'to preserve wild creatures and not to encroach on them.'

According to Qatar Tourism, every year during the winter season, hundreds of flamingos and other migratory birds flock to Qatar's shores on their annual migration from Europe and Siberia to Africa. Purple Island is one of the flamingos' favorite resting spots in Qatar.
