EU saves USD3.25B economical help for Ukraine

(MENAFN) The first €3 billion (about USD3.25 billion) tranche of a €18 billion macro-economic aid package that the EU reserved for Ukraine in December will be spent on Tuesday, in agreement with the bloc.

"Helping Ukraine meet its financing needs to face the Russian aggression is both crucial and urgent," European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen shared Monday on Twitter.

"The Commission is acting with utmost speed and determination," Von der Leyen announced, claiming that the first €3 billion of the reserved money would be spent on Tuesday.

On Dec. 10, 2022, the European Council agreed to the aid package, seeking to enable the EU to monetarily assist Ukraine in 2023 with €18 billion. The move was later confirmed by the European Parliament on Dec. 14.

According to a suggestion by the European Commission, the money will be consumed to support vital public services, as well as hospitals and schools, and offer housing for relocated people, in addition to the restoration of dangerous infrastructure damaged by Russia, in accord with the European Parliament.
