UAE announces two new visa categories: green visa, freelance visa

(MENAFN) Two new visa categories - green visa and freelance visa were proclaimed by the UAE as the Gulf country plans to attract global talent for its ambitious economic transformation plans.

During a press event in Dubai, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi stated that top students, investors, businessmen, and those with specialized skills are qualified to get the green visa.

The ones who took the green visa are going to be able to sponsor their parents, in addition to their sons until the age of 25. Upon termination of the visa, they are going to be given a 90 to 180 days grace period, that is more than the traditional visas given by the UAE.

The minister further declared that Owners of independent businesses, or self-employed individuals can submit an application for the freelance visa.

In addition, at a press conference at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai, the announcements were made just days after the government announced that it was planning 50 projects to mark the UAE’s 50th year.
