Oman- Seeb dethrones Salam to claim OVA league crown


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) For the past decade, Batinah region clubs, be it Al Salam, Saham or Sohar, have been dominating the domestic volleyball scene.

So on Tuesday, when Seeb took on the holder, Al Salam, in the final of the 2018-19 Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) First Division League, its fans turned up in large numbers to cheer their club at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, hoping for its club to regain its past glory.

In-form Seeb did not disappoint its fans, as it recorded a three-set victory to dethrone Salam, which had won the title for three years in a row. A dominating Seeb outplayed Salam 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, to regain the domestic crown, as it claimed its first title after a gap of more than a decade. Witnessing the glorious triumph was H H Sayyid Melek bin Shihab al Said, the club's board member.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Yousuf al Wahaibi, Seeb vice-president, said, 'We areextremely happy on regaining the title after a long gap.'

Earlier, Sohar beat Al Kamil Wal Wafi 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20 for bronze.

Later, Talal al Mamari, Omantel CEO, gave away the trophy and other awards in the presence of Sheikh Badr al Rowas, the OVA chairman.

Individual awards: Best setter: Salah al Hamdani (Seeb), best libero: Said al Rajaibi (Seeb), best blockers: Ahmed al Toobi (Seeb) & Khalid al Miqbali (Al Salam), best spikers: Miguel (Seeb) & Hilal al Miqbali (Sohar), most valuable player: Saud al Mamari (Al Kamil Wal Wafi).
