KUWAIT, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait University commemorates its 58th anniversary on Wednesday, recognizing its pivotal role since 1966 in advancing Kuwait's development plans by investing in human resources, encouraging scientific research and innovation, and preparing a qualified workforce.
In a press statement marking the occasion, Acting President of Kuwait University, Dr. Osama Al-Saeed regarded November 27, 1966 as a transformative day in Kuwait's scientific and educational journey, and emphasized that the university's establishment represented a significant milestone in Kuwait's history.
He added that Kuwait University has become a cornerstone for nurturing national talent and leadership across various disciplines, contributing to the nation's development, and with the support by Kuwait's leadership, the university has expanded to include 16 colleges in both scientific and humanities fields at the Sabah Al-Salem University City, a landmark academic campus.
Dr. Al-Saeed expressed aspirations for a brighter academic future by enhancing educational processes and building national capabilities, aligning with Kuwait's Vision 2035.
On his part, Acting Secretary-General of Kuwait University, Dr. Mieshari Al-Eifan highlighted the scientific and academic accomplishments of Kuwait University, and said that its establishment marked the beginning of an important journey that continues to contribute to the society.
Dr. Al-Eifan added that Kuwait University remains a beacon of knowledge, and that the university's mission has always focused on cultivating educated and aware individuals who can tackle modern challenges.
He said that Kuwait University recognizes the importance of keeping pace with the rapid advancements of the modern age, and this is achieved by providing an educational environment that fosters creativity and innovation.
The modern facilities at Kuwait University align with all the elements of modernity and progress, reflecting Kuwait's commitment to advancing scientific development and supporting the ambitions of the Kuwaiti youth to tackle new scientific challenges.
Kuwait University is the first public research university in Kuwait, the issuance of Law No. 29 of 1966, concerning the regulation of higher education, marked the establishment of Kuwait University with the founding of the Colleges of Science, Arts, Education, and Women's College under the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
The opening of the Sabah Al-Salem University City campus in Al-Shadadiya, which spans approximately six million square meters and was designed to accommodate more than 40,000 students, has further enhanced Kuwait University's ability to fulfill its critical national, scientific, and humanitarian responsibilities.
