BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Snam has
finalized the installation of the mooring deck for the BW Singapore
floating LNG terminal off Ravenna, marking a major milestone in
boosting Italy's energy security, Trend reports.
According to the producer, the terminal will arrive by late 2024
and start operations in early 2025, adding 5 bcm of annual
regasification capacity - 40 percent of Italy's gas demand -
aligning with diversification goals set during the
Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
The deck, weighing 2,800 tonnes, manages gas flow to the
national grid. Environmental monitoring is ongoing, involving 20
organizations and 200 offshore monitoring stations.
'We have reached yet another important milestone, in this
complex operation that will help us meet the deadlines set for this
infrastructure, and a key element to consolidate national and
European energy security targets, also considering the progressive
evolution of gas flows' - commented Snam CEO, Stefano Venier. 'LNG
now covers a quarter of the national gas supply, and with the
commissioning of BW Singapore, we will have volumes equal to what
Italy was receiving from Russia in 2021, allowing for a further
diversification of the system.'
The 1 billion euro project has generated economic benefits, with
30 percent of investments benefiting the Ravenna region and up to
1,200 people employed during peak construction.
