Azerbaijan Election Chief Praises Lower-Level Commissions For Their Work


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 4. The Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan, Mazahir Panahov, expressed satisfaction with the performance of lower-level election commissions, Trend reports.

“We're almost being blamed for giving candidates too many voter meetings. Most candidates met with constituents up to ten times. If we indicated there was just one meeting place for 16 or 13 candidates, we would have been criticized. Overall, I am satisfied with the work of the lower-level commissions, and any violations will be reviewed the press has evidence of violations, they should present it to us,” Panahov stated.

To recall, the snap parliamentary election was held in Azerbaijan on September 1.

A total of 112,749 local observers were registered, including over 65,000 representatives of political parties. There were 598 international observers from 51 organizations and 69 countries.

Among the 990 registered candidates, 305 represented 25 political parties, while 371 were party members but were not nominated by their parties. In total, 676 candidates were affiliated with political parties.
