Doha: As part of its commitment to promoting the green economy and empowering vulnerable young people, Qatar organisations - Silatech and Education Above All Foundation (EAA) will co-host a panel discussion on the sidelines of the 2023 United Nations High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development scheduled to take place in New York this week.

The panel discussion, titled“Thriving in the Green Economy: Unlocking the Potential of Vulnerable Youth through Green Jobs” aims to shed light on the importance of green entrepreneurship, innovation, and skills training in driving job opportunities and fostering economic transformation.

Qatar is making significant strides towards combating the climate change crisis by prioritizing the creation of green jobs and providing opportunities for vulnerable youth. Through this United Nations event, Silatech and Education Above All seek to strengthen international cooperation and foster innovative solutions to collectively tackle the urgent challenges posed by climate change. These efforts firmly align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).

Participating in the discussion will be Qatar Fund for Development, the World Food Programme, Unicef's Generation Unlimited, International Organisation for Employers, and youth climate activists, emphasizing the urgency to find sustainable solutions that address environmental concerns and provide livelihood opportunities for vulnerable communities bearing the brunt of climate change.

Recognizing the social and economic challenges faced by vulnerable populations due to climate change, Qatar's focus on green jobs provides a pathway for disadvantaged youth to actively participate in the green economy while ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

According to the International Labour Organization, transitioning to a greener economy could generate 100 million jobs by 2030 and lift tens of millions of people out of poverty.

The panel discussion will explore various innovative approaches to green skills training for the vulnerable, equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel in the growing field of sustainability. The event will also highlight the potential of green entrepreneurship and innovation to drive job creation and overall economic growth.
