Doha: A month-long exhibition dubbed“Coffee for Two – Cultures in Dialogue” starting next week at Katara Cultural Village, Hall 47, will take visitors on a trip through a multi-cultural display.

Curated by Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum (FBQ), and Al Rayyan Investment in Education and Sports, with cultural partners Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, and Unesco Gulf States and Yemen Office, the exhibition will begin on Monday and will run until September 21, from 10am to 10pm.

According to FBQ, the exhibition will“gather visitors around the famous brew.”

It explained that the“Coffee for Two – Cultures in Dialogue” celebrates the culture and traditions around the beverage as a universal language that connects people around the world and promotes cultural exchanges and social cohesion.

Fifty artefacts will be displayed at the exhibition. FBQ said that the exhibition“also explores the cultural practices related to the home-roasted“Gahwa” the“Arabic coffee; a symbol of generosity” is enjoyed by all segments of society, particularly in their home or in a majlis, the social space present in every Arab home.”

Qatar Tourism on its website described gahwa as an“aromatic, gold-hued beverage.”“Coffee making ritual is taken very seriously in Qatari households, with tribes and families often creating their own signature recipes,” it said.

Moreover, it said that gahwa plays a pivotal role within Qatari hospitality, including how to welcome and entertain guests and coffee lovers.“When pouring the beverage there are important traditions to uphold, from the equipment used, to the standing position beside the guest, even the order guests are served is an important consideration.”

Traditions such as the drinking and socialising of gahwa play a fundamental role in maintaining Qatar's rich history and culture, while ensuring guests enjoy the authentic experience of Middle Eastern hospitality. Admission to the“Coffee for Two – Cultures in Dialogue” exhibition is free.
