Celebrations Mark 100-Day Countdown To World Cup

Doha: The excitement of the country's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 continues to unfold as it marked yesterday the 100 days countdown before the most prestigious event.

Celebrations are taking place across Qatar as it is set to welcome the best international teams for the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world. It has been 12 years since the country won the bid to host the quintessential tournament.

Special events are being held in three malls until today. Hamad International Airport (HIA) also celebrated the event with performances that can be seen on its official social media pages. A huge number of crowd carrying“100 days to go” banners thronged at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Official Countdown Clock, powered by Hublot at Doha's picturesque Corniche Fishing Spot.

Football fans continue to flock to three malls to join the countdown. Doha Festival City, Place Vendome, and Mall of Qatar prepared activities including football games, e-games, performance and special giveaways. Fans also can get a chance to win tickets to the opening of the World Cup match between Qatar and Ecuador on November 20 happening at Al Bayt Stadium in northern Al Khor. Tickets will be granted to the best scorer on each day. To register, participants must scan the QR code that is shown at the locations where the events are taking place.

Today's events continue from 1pm to 10pm at Doha Festival City, and from 12pm to 10pm at Place Vendome. A big finale event will also be hosted today at the Oasis area of the Mall of Qatar, meanwhile, activities will run from 12pm to 10pm. 

Aatikah from Malaysia who tried the games at Mall of Qatar said:“I can feel that we're really close to the World Cup, and I can't wait to cheer for my second home, Qatar on the opening match come November. These games really engage communities and it also gives us a glimpse of what's more to come as we get closer and closer to the World Cup.”

“The choices of games that the malls and Supreme Committee are offering are exceptional. You can choose an activity where you will be physically challenged or can opt for a video game. I've tried the speed challenge game and it was really fun to test my agility skills,” said Hakim from Egypt.

The Qatar Football Association also posted a video with the caption:“We're getting closer! 100 days to go for our national team's World Cup opening game.” The 33-second video shows crowd cheering, with clips from football games, stadiums where the football competition will be held including Al Bayt Stadium, and Stadium 974.“After waiting for a long time, the enthusiasm grows day by day. We get to the main event in 2022, World Cup Qatar 2022. 100 days to the World Cup,” it said on the video.

Qatar Foundation, Kahramaa, Qatar Rail, Qatar Tourism, Qatar Financial Centre, Hamad International Airport (official airport partner of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022), and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) are some of the government entities which posted a photo or video on their social media pages marking the 100 day countdown.

Non-profit organisation, Qatar Foundation posted a Pac-Man-inspired video game with the number 100 at the centre. Kahramaa said that they are all set for the highly anticipated tournament, meeting electricity and water demands of the host stadiums and monitoring substations feeding them.

We are looking forward to sharing the passion and enthusiasm of the World Cup with football fans,” said Qatar Rail along with a video post. Qatar Tourism said:“A world of excitement awaits - see you there! Plan your trip now on visitqatar.com.”

“We can't wait to welcoming you to Qatar through The World's Best Airport,” said HIA. Meanwhile, the principal public healthcare provider in the country, HMC posted three photos with statements from its top officials on their support to the football competition, and their services and preparedness for the event.
