(MENAFN)A bank administrator stated on Monday, May 3, in the capital Bujumbura, that the World Bank will offer USD54.6 million to back better health care in Burundi.
Veronique Kabongo, the bank’s envoy in the East African country stated that "This morning we signed a financing agreement of USD54.6 million to support the health system in Burundi".
She also stated that the funding will support "the implementation of the national policy of free health care for pregnant women and children under 5, to support community health workers in carrying out a community package of activities and to support paramedical schools to improve the quality of training”.
Part of the money will also be assigned to the tackle coronavirus by reinforcing laboratory networks in the country and supporting activities of a scheme in three Burundian provinces to combat gender-based violence.
