DR Congo: Insurgent assault leaves 16 dead

(MENAFN) Military sources said that from Saturday to Sunday a number of simultaneous assaults by ADF-Ugandan insurgents in North Kivu province and Ituri province in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) left 16 people as a minimum dead during the night.

During the assault, 10 people as a minimum lost their lives in the province of North Kivu. In the adjacent province of Ituri, another branch of the very insurgence started the assault at the village of Boyo and left six civilians dead.

Ituri army spokesperson Jules Ngongo stated that the rebels fought with elements of the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) until a late hour.

It has been some months that the foreign insurgence of the ADF-Ugandan group has been launching simultaneous assaults in both bordering provinces in spite of military actions of the DRC backed by the UN mission.
