Qatar- MME intensifies inspection drive across municipalities


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: To ensure safety of food at eateries and other outlets in a situation when the country is beating COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has  intensified its inspection campaign across the country.

In all municipalities of the country, surprise inspection visits are being paid to eateries, hypermarkets among other places to ensure the implementation of relevant laws. 

Only last month (January 2021), the Ministry of Municipality and Environment conducted over 15,000 inspection visits in various municipalities. The inspection drives included eateries, building violations as well as encroachments on state property.

The Ministry said in a statement on its website that about 12,000 inspection drives carried out through electronic inspection system while 2,841 violations recorded by the municipalities in the last month. 

The Municipalities conducted inspection visits on food outlets, building violations and encroachments on state property etc. to ensure the compliance of rules set by the ministry.

The Health Control Section alone at the different municipalities conducted more than 8,400 inspection drives on food establishments, including restaurants, stores and shops within the administrative boundaries of each municipality, where Doha Municipality alone carried out 3,350 inspection visits, followed by Umm Salal where 1,347 inspection visits were made.

The Ministry further said that the inspection visits resulted in registering of 336 violations. The violations were booked according to some provisions of the Law No. 8 of 1990 for food regulation.

According to the statistics published on the Ministry's website, Doha Municipality topped the rest of the municipalities, with about 196 recorded violations, followed by Al Wakra Municipality with 54 violations. Al Shamal Municipality saw least number of 3 violations through 326 inspection rounds.

In addition, the General Monitoring Sections at the municipalities conducted 2,784 inspection visits during which 2,193 violations were recorded regarding the provisions of Law No 18 of 2017 on Public Hygiene. Doha Municipality alone carried out 1,050 inspection rounds, and registered 1,022 violations, followed by Al Rayyan Municipality with 729 violations. 

Regarding Technical Control Sections, they carried out 1,427 inspection visits on building violations and encroachments on state property, which resulted in seizing 312 violations. Al Rayyan Municipality registered the highest number of violations in this regard with 93 violations, followed by Al Wakara and Al Khor & Al Dakhira. Al Shamal Municipality recorded only one violation.

For its part, the Municipal Services Affairs Sections implemented 217 tree trimming requests and 5,857 insect and rodent control requests.

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the competent authorities in the municipalities, intensified inspection and awareness campaigns on various food establishments to ensure the safety of foodstuff and the implementation of the necessary health requirements, within the framework of ensuring the health and safety of consumers.
