Afghanistan: 30 die within 24 hours as battles escalate


(MENAFN) Authorities declared that over 30 people, with six security forces and a civilian among them, have died across Afghanistan within a day as battles escalate in the country.

The agency added that in western Herat province, three Afghan intelligence agency personnel have died and 2 more were injured in a car bomb attack close to a provincial intelligence agency building on Friday.

The NDS, the country's primary intelligence agency confirmed: "A National Directorate of Security (NDS) technical team was defusing a found suspected vehicle roughly at 4:50 p.m. local time in Herat city, capital of Herat province. The personnel defused parts of explosives in the car, but unfortunately a blast occurred leaving the casualties."

Battles have escalated through the restive country and gunfights between security forces and Taliban have been raising in 25 out of the country's 34 provinces since last Friday when Taliban initiated a yearly offensive.
