Israeli occupation sentences murderer of Palestinian teenager to 9 months in jail

(MENAFN) An Israeli border policeman, who murdered a 16-year-old Palestinian teen on Nakba Day, on May 15, 2014, was sentenced to only nine months in prison, on Wednesday.

The Jerusalem District Court, specifically Judge Daniel Teperberg found officer Ben Deri guilty of causing death by negligence by firing live ammunition instead of rubber bullets at 17-year-old Nadeem Nawara when ordered to disperse a crowd of protestors during a Nakba Day demonstration on Nakba day or "catastrophe", which marked mass expulsions and violence amid the 1948 creation of Israeli occupation.

Under a plea deal, Deri was ordered to pay 50,000 shekels (USD14,000) in compensation for Nuwara's death and would only serve seven months in prison, as the sentence includes time served.

Earlier this year, Ben Deri was cleared of the charge of manslaughter and convicted, instead, of negligent homicide.

It's worth mentioning that Israel has sentenced Ahed Tamimi, a teenager who slapped an Israeli occupation soldier, to 8 months in jail.
