(MENAFN) The crossing between Jordan and Iraq, Al-Karama-Trbil border will be revamped to meet international standards, the Iraqi Interior Minister, Qassem al-Araji confirmed in a press conference held on Monday at the Iraqi Embassy in Amman.
The border crossing known as Al Karameh on the Jordanian side and Trebil on the Iraqi side was reopened in August 2017
The trade route is crucial in linking the capitals of the two countries and its reopening plays a energetic role in boosting bilateral economic and trade relations, said al-Araji.
The border crossing was reopened for the first time in over a year since the so-called Islamic State took control of the Iraqi border area in 2014.
The reopening will generate more jobs, and help decrease unemployment rate, according to the governor of Iraq's Anbar province, Mohammad al-Halbusi.
