Military unit in eastern Turkey subjected to rocket fire: 3 wounded

A military unit in the eastern Turkish province of Hakkari has been subjected to rocket fire from the territory of Iraq, the Turkish media outlets reported Jan. 22.

Reportedly, militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) hit the military unit, as a result of which, according to preliminary data, three Turkish soldiers were wounded.

Later, the Turkish Air Force launched air operations in the north of Iraq.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 30 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
