Kuwait- Two police shot while arresting suspected extremist on Reunion Island


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, April 27 (KUNA) -- Two French police officers were shot and wounded Thursday during an operation to arrest a radical extremist suspected of terrorist activity linked with Islamist groups, the Interior Ministry said.

The incident took place on La Reunion Island, a French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, Interior Minister Matthias Fekl said in a statement that the arrest operation took place early Thursday morning after evidence emerged that an individual was making pro-terrorist statements.

The unnamed individual was arrested by police after he shot at them. His mother was also taken into custody. A large cache of weapons and petrol bomb-making equipment were seized in the raid.

The wounded police officers' lives were not in danger, the Interior Ministry said. (End) jk.rk
