Oman Tech Awards recognise initiatives and their impact on society industry

Winners of the first Oman Tech Awards The Technology Event of the Year were announced on Monday at the Shangri-La Barr al Jissah Resort and Spa.

The awards were given under the categories apps blogs social media and websites. The submissions were evaluated for initiative value and impact of the project on industry and society.

Baby Sam Samuel who won gold in the personal website and personal Facebook page categories said 'I am honoured to receive the award and believe that Oman Tech Awards would go a long way in promoting use of technology on a day-to-day basis.' Tariq Hilal al Barwani founder of Knowledge Oman who was named Tech Person of the Year expressed his gratitude for the recognition.

'Serving people and society in Oman by leveraging information and communication technology is what I love to do. I am honoured to receive the recognition for the projects and work we do for developing Oman.' The jury for the awards comprised Hatim al Tai editor in chief Al Roya Arabic newspaper; Stefano Virgilli general manager of Al Majara Business and Development and Vox Lab Oman; Roghe Hajj IT expert; Sherry L Colbourne managing partner at Start Up Oman; Hamoud al Azri general supervisor of the website of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said; Conrad Prabhu senior journalist and magazine editor at Oman Daily Observer; Suleiman al Rawahi senior IT operations specialist at Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Surendra Kumar Varshney director of information technology at College of Banking and Financial Studies.

The event was organised by the SJS Group in cooperation with Information Technology Authority Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and GUtech.
