why can’t i get into coffee?
i love tea. i mean i love tea. from herbal to earl grey to iced to a good old fashioned mug of builder’s brew i adore tea in all its guises. this makes visiting or living anywhere outside india china morocco (to a certain extent) and britain a tad uncomfortable. obviously it is not the worst problem one could face when travelling to new frontiers. i can’t imagine i’d see many sympathetic faces along the exotic diseases ward in the local hospital. but hailing from england it is always the small things that seem to stick in the throat the most. for example that moment when on an american excursion you have to cover your cup with your hand deftly avoiding getting it covered in boiling brown liquid is always embarrassing. equally having to ask if they have any tea at the end of the meal just isn’t as cool as ordering a triple espresso.
living in dubai the problem is not too bad despite being surrounded with more coffee shops than you can shake a freshly ground mocha roasted half cream grande with cinnamon sprinkles at. my question is why can’t i embrace the obvious popularity shun tea and get onboard the coffee express?
it’s not that the brown stuff tastes bad. sometimes it can be delicious. the thick turkish version can be amazing. i just don’t seem to care that’s all. i think my apathy derives from other people’s adoration of the caffeinated juice.
“let’s not go there let’s go here. the coffee is great here.”
is it? okay. if you need to plan your trip around which place serves what you regard to be better cappuccinos then go for it. i’m not bothered.
i guess i’m writing this piece because i seem to be alone in this matter. so more as a social experiment than anything else if you agree with any of the sentiments above or can answer the question posited in the title please do get in touch.
