(MENAFN - Arab News) Technical Trainers College (TTC) Riyadh launched the health and fitness week on Tuesday with healthy food and improved fitness as a teaching goal.
"This health and fitness week is part of our holistic approach to training," said Dean Michael Klees at the launch.
"With the worldwide increase of chronic illnesses that are related to lack of exercise and inadequate nutrition, we would like to familiarize our students with alternatives," he said.
TTC is embarking on a two-week-long health program for its students, lecturers and staff. German sport scientist Martin Rauscher will offer simple and easy exercises to get the day of to a good start.
Kicking off the program, Rauscher prepared a healthy breakfast with the students. "I want to show that there are simple ways to arrange healthy and tasty meals," he said.
Rauscher said he preferred motivating and convincing the students rather than lecturing them. Later in the student cafeteria, he demonstrated how to prepare a delicious and nutritious lunch.

He also advised to substitute a candy bar with a banana. Not only is this better for the health but a banana also provides long-time energy for studying. Advice on nutrition and the provision of healthy meals are important aspects of the program.
During spring TTC had embarked on a health consciousness campaign, when the range of items offered in the college cafeteria was expanded to include fruit and healthy snacks.
College officials said the health and fitness program is a second step on the way to making regular exercise and adequate nutrition part of students' everyday life at TTC.
According to the officials, TTC is the first institution in the Kingdom that specializes in training vocational trainers with modern didactic and state-of-the-art methodology of training.
