(MENAFN- IANS) Patna, Dec 12 (IANS) The Bihar Sharif railway station in Nalanda district is undergoing a major facelift under Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's Amrit Bharat Station scheme and will soon be equipped with all modern amenities and facilities.
According to Indian Railways officials, a total budget of Rs 6 crore has been approved for refurbishing and re-modelling of the railway station under the scheme.
The development work at the railway station is going on at a fast pace and the travel amenities of the passengers have been given top priority.
These include finding workable solutions for vehicles parking, construction of new buildings, provision of escalators and lifts, construction of foot overbridges, toilet facilities, and development of drainage systems.
Road construction is also being done to connect the station complex with the national highway.
According to a Railway engineer, supervising the development work at Bihar Sharif station, about 30 per cent of the work for parking space has been completed.
The construction work of the foot overbridge has started, and escalators and lifts will be installed soon for easy access to the platform.
The toilet construction work is 90 per cent complete, and the drainage system work is in the final stages.
Notably, the upliftment of railway stations including the one in Bihar's Nalanda district is being undertaken across the country under the Amrit Bharat Yojana.
The ongoing development work at Bihar Sharif station is likely to be completed by June 2025.
The Amrit Bharat Station scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with an aim to make railway stations modern and convenient for passengers.
This includes improving station infrastructure, expanding passenger amenities, improving cleanliness, providing free Wi-Fi, opening local products kiosks and making special arrangements for persons with disabilities and implementing eco-friendly solutions.
The Amrit Bharat Station scheme currently intends to upgrade and modernise a total of 1,275 stations across the Indian Railway system.
Within this initiative, 18 stations from the Sonpur Division and 20 stations from the Samastipur Division have been singled out for attention.
