Azerbaijani President's Representative Meets Vietnam VP


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 24. Elchin Amirbayov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, recently met with Vietnam's Vice President, Vo Thi Anh Xuan, in Hanoi, Trend reports.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh expressed her satisfaction with the positive direction of the bilateral relationship, highlighting the frequent exchange of delegations at various levels, the effective functioning of bilateral mechanisms, mutual support in multilateral forums, and significant progress in economic and trade cooperation.

She emphasized the importance of education as a key area of collaboration, noting Azerbaijan's crucial role in training Vietnamese personnel in fields such as oil and gas, communications, and the navy.

Vo Thi Anh also stressed the need to continue working together, particularly in cultural exchanges and mutual support in regional and United Nations forums. She affirmed Vietnam's readiness to back Azerbaijan's bid for membership in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). Additionally, she suggested that the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Inter-Governmental Committee for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Cooperation review current mechanisms and explore new ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation.

On global and regional issues, she reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, along with multilateralization and diversification of external relations. She emphasized Vietnam's commitment to maintaining an environment of peace, national sovereignty, and the right of self-determination for all nations.

In response, Elchin Amirbayov expressed his desire to strengthen the traditional friendship between Azerbaijan and Vietnam, particularly in areas like economy, trade, investment, and culture, where there is still significant potential for growth. He highlighted the critical role of education, noting that thousands of Vietnamese students have studied in Azerbaijan and have become key members of friendship associations, serving as important bridges between the two nations.

Amirbayov also proposed facilitating high-level visits and expanding cooperation in the oil and gas sector. He described Asia as a top priority in Azerbaijan's foreign policy and emphasized the importance Azerbaijan places on its relations with ASEAN countries, including Vietnam. He expressed hope that Vietnam would support Azerbaijan's bid for TAC membership.

Both sides agreed on further developing bilateral ties in various fields, including politics and diplomacy, economy, trade, education, and the exchange of expertise in clearing bombs, mines, and unexploded ordnance.
