Egypt's Al-Sisi, Azerbaijan's Aliyev Advocate For Ceasefire In Gaza


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev stressed the need for a ceasefire in Gaza during a joint press conference on Saturday in Cairo.


President Al-Sisi highlighted Egypt's humanitarian efforts in Gaza and the pursuit of a ceasefire to facilitate the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, as defined by the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, aligning with international resolutions.


President Aliyev emphasised the significance of the Palestinian issue during his Non-Aligned Movement presidency, reiterating Azerbaijan's unwavering support for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.


He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and a peaceful resolution of conflicts, endorsing Egypt's initiatives for the Palestinian cause.


Furthermore, President Al-Sisi affirmed the mutual commitment to bolster bilateral ties and coordinate on regional and international matters. The leaders expressed intent to enhance economic and trade relations, focusing on sectors such as construction, transportation, communications, IT, food, pharmaceuticals, and energy.


Both presidents recognized the importance of ongoing political consultations and anticipated the sixth session of the“Egyptian-Azerbaijani Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.”


They also looked forward to the“Egyptian-Azerbaijani Businessmen Forum,” aiming to foster economic and commercial ties.


In addition, President Al-Sisi assured support for initiatives promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and endorsed dialogue for a fair and comprehensive peace.


He commended the recent progress in Azerbaijan-Armenia border demarcation, marking a new developmental phase for the region's people.
