Rena Murshud read more On the one hand, the chaos and arbitrariness of the separatists
in Khankendi, on the other, the baseless statements from Yerevan,
and finally, the next round of the Brussels meeting between the
leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia at the most central point of the
process.
The next tripartite meeting held in Brussels on July 15 resulted
in the reaffirmation of the decisions made in the previous
meetings. However, as mentioned earlier, the Armenian side
continues to cause provocations and make baseless claims.
Even though the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan
expressed in recent meetings that he recognizes the territorial
integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, after the meeting,
Armenian sources began to spread information refuting what the
Prime Minister said.
Despite all these attempts, Pashinyan's policy based on double
standards did not change the position of either the European Union
or the states close to the region. On the contrary, the President
of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel himself
confirmed that the meeting was held very efficiently.
Ukrainian political analyst Vitaly Kulik commented to Azernews
about both the Brussels meeting and Armenia's position. According
to him, it is a very positive thing that Armenia recognizes the
territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and confirms it in spite of
misinformation spread from inside Armenia. However, the expert says
the acknowledgement of the Armenian PM may not be lasting.
"As always, this is cautious optimism, because this is not
something final formalized position. We are talking about a
dialogue, but this is a permanent process that requires the direct
participation of the leaders of the countries. Since the
confirmation of this process and the agreement of the parties with
the Almaty Declaration "- this is already good and important.
Armenia has once again confirmed the territorial integrity of
Azerbaijan. Therefore, I believe that this is the wording of
"cautious optimism" aimed at achieving final fixings of the
agreement. This is exactly what corresponds to reality."
The expert also touched on the results of the Brussels meeting.
He voiced optimistic predictions about the results of the next
meeting in Brussels.
"Through one or the next meeting, they will bring some final
result. There will be movements towards the normalization of
relations and the formation of a new geopolitical reality in the
South Caucasus.
In addition, there will be a movement towards a way out of the
permanent protracted crisis, which does not allow development and
build new relations throughout the region. I think that in the
direction that Armenia is moving along this path, it understands
the complexity of the current situation for itself: Russia is not a
sponsor for security and should leave this region, and that Armenia
has no alternative in the negotiation process. Delaying or refusal,
or attempts to stall the continuation of the decision will not lead
to anything good for Armenia, but rather will lead to internal
political instability in this country," V. Kulik added.
In response to the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry
about the unblocking of the Lachin road, the expert noted that
Russia simply wants to control traffic flows in the South Caucasus,
including in the area of the Karabakh conflict. According to the
political analyst, Russia believes that it will remain a peacemaker
and mediator, as well as a sponsor of the security of the countries
of the Caucasus region. Moscow wants to have a kind of map that can
look out if necessary and will have tools for internal political
intervention of the countries of the region.
"Russia still boasts of some responsibility for the region and
considers the South Caucasus as a sphere of its particular
interests, and believes that Russia is still the main player in the
region. But in reality, this has not been the case for a long time,
and every day it becomes obvious directly to the states of this
region. Russia will once leave the South Caucasus, as well as the
Central Asian countries. Therefore, the effect of this statement,
except as a statement of an attempt to show the Armenians that
Russia is still somehow present and still has a strong card in this
solitaire, and nothing more," the political analyst stressed.
The Ukrainian expert also touched upon the Western reaction to
Russia's latest statement. He considered such statements
ineffective from the Western point of view.
"However, I think that it makes no sense to observe any radical
actions there yet. Because, now the "ball" is on the side of
Armenia and certain actions must be taken to show readiness for the
next step in the dialogue. Only then, we can talk about a transport
corridor (Zangazur) and about new missions to support the
post-conflict world,” Kulik said.
