As part of its yearly programme, which also includes a number of training courses, hands-on workshops, exhibitions, and creative forums, the General Cultural Foundation (Katara) debuted a range of Arabic calligraphy activities on Sunday.
The activities, according to Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, director general of Katara, aim to maintain, support, and promote Arabic and Islamic calligraphy arts in Qatar and across the globe as one of the most important aspects of Arab and Islamic identity.
He continued by saying that Katara will strengthen its position as an Arabic calligraphy incubator, promote the art form among youth, and draw efforts to maintain and defend it.
In an effort to promote this art's cultural, civilizational, and aesthetic meanings globally, especially after it was added to the list of the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Katara launched long-term work programmes that included training courses, practical workshops, forums, art exhibitions, specialized studies, and media publications, according to Al Sulaiti.
According to the creative levels and the intended audiences, Al Sulaiti continued, Katara's yearly programme will also feature a variety of hands-on workshops and training courses on various types and styles of Arabic calligraphy.
According to Al Sulaiti, those who successfully finish the classes will receive certifications that will allow them to practise Arabic calligraphy professionally.
He stated that Katara will organize Arabic calligraphy exhibits where a few of the contestants' notable works would be displayed and assessed by a separate panel.
