Pakistani FM Meets Global Leaders To Discuss Regional, International Issues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met global leaders to discuss issues of regional and international importance on the sidelines of the 26th meeting of ECO Council of Ministers in Tashkent, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.
According to the Pakistan Foreign Office, Pakistan and Uzbekistan have resolved to further promote their cooperation in trade, energy and connectivity during a meeting between Zardari and his Uzbek counterpart Bakhtiyor Saidov on the sidelines of the 26th meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers.
Moreover, the Pakistani Foreign Minister also met his Turkish counterpart Mevult Cavusoglu, where the two sides expressed resolve to further strengthen the entire spectrum of bilateral relations.
Issues of global and regional importance were also discussed, said Foreign Office. The Foreign Minister also met his Iranian counterpart Amir Abdollahian and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to further strengthen brotherly relations with Iran.
The two Foreign Ministers also discussed important global and regional developments. Meanwhile, Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to work together to increase cooperation in trade and economy. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Foreign Minister Zardari and his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Tashkent.
Earlier, the Pakistani Foreign Minister has stressed for a collective approach to address the issues faced by the region including climate change.
Addressing the 26th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Economic Cooperation Organization in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Tuesday, he said the regional countries need to develop a strategically robust emergency response mechanism to respond to any climate crisis in future.
He noted that the issue of climate cooperation is very significant. Alluding to the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan's urgent priority is to ensure rapid economic growth and lift millions out of destitution and hunger. He said we will not only build back better but do so in a climate resilient manner, said Foreign Office. (end)
