Dhaka: The 'Nuclear Bus' which is now traveling across different districts of North Bengal has been able to attract local people, especially students. The specially branded bus started its week-long journey from Dhaka on Nov 30.
The main objectives of this unique bus tour are to create public interest in science and technology, awareness about nuclear technology, its safety, and eco-friendliness as well as its versatile application in different spheres of life.
“We in Rosatom believe that the technologies and science should be accessible to as many people as possible and Nuclear Bus is one of our ways to bring our scientific expertise to remote areas of Bangladesh,” said Andrey Shevlyakov, CEO, Rosatom South Asia office.
A team of young engineers from the Information Center on Nuclear Energy (ICONE), Dhaka, and Public Information Centre (PIC) on Nuclear, Ishwardi, and a representative of BAEC traveling in the bus are organizing roadside events for the public.
The bus has already covered Rangpur, Gaibandha, and Panchagarh Districts and around 10 events have been organized along the way attended by a huge number of local residents.
Young professionals are interacting with the people, briefing them on the use of nuclear technology in the safe generation of eco-friendly electricity, especially about Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and its safety features and also the socio-economic benefits of the project. Science-based quiz competitions and games have added extra attractions for the public. Informative leaflets, booklets, and souvenirs are being distributed among the attendees.
The Nuclear Bus tour is organized for the second year with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), and Rosatom State Corporation of Russia.
The tour will end on December 6 in Dhaka.
