Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul opens week with decreases


(MENAFN) Turkey’s main share index started at 2,489.74 points on Monday, to witness a decline by 2.52 percent, or 64.34 points, as compared to the prior end.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index increased by 0.43 percent to end at 2,554.08 points on Friday, with a day-to-day exchange volume of 34.99 billion Turkish liras (USD2 billion).

Following the Turkish banking regulator's verdicts on late Friday, which restrict commercial loans for firms with a certain amount of foreign currency, Turkish lira earned power compared to foreign currencies.

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange price fell to 16.5870 at 10.00 AM regional time (0700GMT), from 17.3700 at the prior end.

The euro/lira exchange price dropped to 17.5095 from 18.3120, whereas a British pound sold for 20.3650 Turkish liras, decreasing from 21.3980 at the last week's end.

Brent crude oil was exchanged for about USD108.98 a barrel, whereas the cost of one ounce of gold stood at USD1,838.75.
