Doha: President of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah held a consultative meeting with the work team of GANHRI in Doha.

The meeting aimed at providing an initial dialogue platform on the strategic plan of GANHRI slated to be approved in March 2023, which will outline the alliance's agenda and work programme for the next three years. Secretary General of GANHRI Amina Bouayach and representative of the Executive Office of GANHRI Katharina Rose attended the meeting.

“This meeting will provide an opportunity to share ideas, visions and expectations, discuss achievements, opportunities for progress and work obstacles facing the GANHRI, and agree on work priorities and mechanisms during the coming period that will enable the Alliance to achieve its main goals,” said Al Attiyah. She said that the next strategic plan seeks to achieve five main goals, the first of which is the contribution of the global alliance to establishing, strengthening, and accrediting national institutions, developing their capabilities and protecting them in cooperation with regional networks and partners in the United Nations.

“The second goal is to continue the global alliance to establish itself as a global alliance of national human rights institutions, and so that it is able to gather its members at the global level, increase cooperation and interaction with each other, and be able to develop their capabilities and joint learning and knowledge-based experience that aims to enrich the discussion on global policy and effective action at the national level, in relation to the promotion and protection of human rights,” said Al Attiyah.

The fourth goal is to strengthen cooperation with the global human rights system and influence global human rights concerns and issues, especially those emerging from them due to the increase in global economic interdependence and scientific and technological development.“The fifth goal will focus on building the capabilities of the Global Alliance to work on international best practices, as it is a professional, effective, well-managed, efficient and sustainable organization in addition to activating the role of regional networks for national institutions and sharing responsibilities and roles,” said Al Attiyah.
